Why is an injury prevention program needed?

  • ACL injuries occur in both male and female athletes, but females are 2 to 8 times more likely to tear their ACL than male athletes.
  • 80% of ACL injuries in females are non-contact and occur while cutting, pivoting, landing from a jump, or decelerating.
The TRIA Play Strong™ ACL Injury Prevention Program is designed to help teams implement the PEP Program: Prevent Injury and Enhance Performance. The PEP program was designed by The Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Research Foundation to decrease the risk of ACL injury in female athletes. Male athletes may benefit from this program as well.

Program Details:

  • Targets athletes' common areas of weakness and increases lower extremity strength and stability.
  • Includes warm-ups, stretching, strengthening, plyometrics and sport-specific agility exercises.
  • Exercises take approximately 15 minutes to complete prior to activity.
  • Recommended at least three times per week as a warm-up prior to practice/games.
  • Includes core conditioning components that help athletes with performance and injury reduction.

The program materials are available on the related information section of this page; however, we highly recommend an expert be present to train proper technique to assure understanding of the principles and correct implementation of the exercises. Once a relationship is established with a TRIA Play Strong™ expert, that individual will continue to be your contact for questions or further follow-up.
